Sunil Lahri on Ranbir Kapoor playing Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: ‘Unacceptable to the audience after his Animal’ | Bollywood News

Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has been generating buzz, and not all of it is positive. Veteran actor Sunil Lahri, who portrayed Lakshman in the 1987 show Ramayan, has shared his views on the much-anticipated Ranbir Kapoor-starrer.

Lahri finds the idea of Ranbir playing Ram “unacceptable to the audience,” although he admits, “From the poster, I liked his look. It’s very nice, and since he’s so smart, he will look perfect in that role. But, I don’t know how much people will accept him as Ram.” The veteran actor believes that casting an actor without a strong existing image would work better. “No doubt Ranbir is a great actor with a big legacy. I’m sure he will do justice, but it’s the perception of people you can’t change. Especially after doing something like Animal recently, it will be difficult for people to see him as Lord Ram.”

In the upcoming movie, Sai Pallavi is set to portray Sita, with her look already sparking discussions among fans. Sunil Lahri, however, remains skeptical, saying, “I don’t know how she is as an actress, but looks-wise, I am honestly not very convinced. In my mind, Sita has a very beautiful and perfect-looking face, and I don’t think Sai’s face has that perfection.” He added, “In Indian mindsets, all the devis are out of this world. I don’t know how they are going to make this actress look that attractive that Raavan would fall for her.”

Interestingly, Arun Govil, who originally played Lord Ram, will now portray Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Lahri disapproves of the casting, stating, “He is crushing his own personality. If something like that was offered to me, I wouldn’t have done that.”

Festive offer

Only recently, actor Dipika Chikjlia, known for her role as Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, expressed her displeasure with the frequent remakes of Ramayana, saying they are “making a mess of it.”
