Onza Distribution, the international sales arm of Madrid and Miami-based Onza has added to its lineup of titles produced by Wakai for Prime Video España, as it rolls out further sales on its banner non-fiction title, “Young Addictions.”
The sales news comes as the dust settles on this year’s Conecta Fiction, which ran June 18-21 in Spain’s Toledo, and as France’s Sunny Side of the Doc kicks off in La Rochelle, unspooling over June 24-27.
A Mipcom 2022 market premiere, portraying the causes and consequences of non-substance addictions consumed by teenagers through their cell phones’ screens – social media, porn and online gaming – “Young Addictions” has closed new sales with Germany (ZDF), Belgium (RTBF), Slovenia (RTV Slovenija), (RTV) Portugal (CNN Portugal) and MENA (Al Jazeera).
The three-episode 45-minute documentary series is produced by Onza and Alejandro G. Roemmers in collaboration with Capa, Producciones Imposibles and Methos Media.
“Real Madrid, The White Legend,” (“Real Madrid: la leyenda blanca”), a six-hour series produced by Onza and Morrigan Films, will travel to Croatia thanks to HRT and the presence of Lukas Modric, Croatia’s captain, in the Real Madrid team. The doc series has landed in MENA territories in 2023.
Onza’s remarkable sports title, released two years ago on Prime Video Spain which was also a nominee for Best Sports Title at the 2023 Venice TV Awards, continues to receive new offers in new regions, Onza noted on Monday.
As doc series in general, and sports docs in particular, provide Spanish companies with some of their biggest national IPs, Onza Distribution has added to its lineup “Thibout Courtois: A Real Madrid Story,”a portrait of Real Madrid’s goalkeeper whose spectacular blocks help explain the Spanish club’s 2022 and 2024 UEFA Champions League wins. His nine saves against Liverpool in the 2022 final set a new championship record.
“Thibout Courtois: A Real Madrid Story” joins Wakai sports documentaries “FC Barcelona: A New Era,” “Marc Marquez: All In” and “Simeone: Living Match by Match,” acquired from Wakai and Prime Video España in a strategic deal announced in April. Onza will handle second window internationally after Prime Video.
Other titles on Onza’s sales slate of various genres – such as nature, culture or social research – will be revealed very soon.
“At Onza Distribution we want to promote documentaries that can be both commercial and appealing to the public, so they fall in line to the needs of the market and our clients, with quality always as our priority,” commented Béatrice Nouh, head of sales at Onza Distribution. “We represent independent production companies with talent and a lot of topics to discuss. They are capable of captivating international audiences.”
