Ranveer Singh is always seen in an energetic avatar and while the actor maintains that image when the cameras are around, Gulshan Devaiah recently shared that the actor is the same off screen as well. Gulshan was speaking about his shooting experience with Ranveer on the sets of Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela and said that they share a “good professional relationship.” He smiled and added that Ranveer’s demeanour can be described as “attention seeking” by some people. He also recalled the time when Ranveer would cry in the corner after an emotional scene.
He shared, in a chat with Siddharth Kanna on his YouTube channel, “He is very energetic. He has always been like this, extremely energetic. You can call it attention seeking but some people have that thing. He projects himself like a movie star that’s because he believes he is a movie star.” Gulshan recalled being in an acting workshop with Ranveer for two weeks and said that even back then, he walked like a movie star. “The way he would walk, even back then, you could see he is a star because that’s how he looks at himself,” he said.
Talking about Ranveer’s energy on set, Gulshan said that sometimes he would walk away after a take to get some space for Ranveer because he couldn’t always operate on the same wavelength. “Sometimes, I would walk in a corner after doing a take with him because he is so energetic. His energy is so much that sometimes it is not sustainable for someone to match that. You get affected by it. Sometimes you don’t want to deal with it. Sometimes you want peace,” he said.
He shared that they were competitive with each other, “but not in a negative way”. “Bhansali sir was praising me but Ranveer had not started shooting yet. So he is like ‘Sir was raving about you’. Maine kaha bhai kuch jalne ki boo aa rahi hai. Par mazak kar rahe the hum (I said I can smell something burn but we were just joking),” he shared.
Gulshan then addressed Prashant Narayan’s comments on Ranveer Singh where the actor suggested that Ranveer was “lying” about his “dark phase” during Padmaavat and said that every actor has his own process. He then shared that on Bhansali’s sets, Ranveer would sometimes cry in a corner after an emotional scene. “On the sets of Ramleela, sometimes after doing an emotional scene, he would sit in a corner and cry. Now you can look at it as attention seeking, maybe it was. But maybe there is some truth to it also. Maybe he is unable to shake it off,” he said and added, “I have seen him cry a couple of times.”
