Actor Rajesh Kumar is a popular name on Indian television, especially since his role as Roshesh Sarabhai has been an iconic one. Of late, Rajesh has been seen in various OTT shows as well as films, and while he says he has evolved with his craft over the years, in a recent interview with ABP Live.com, Rajesh opened up about advice he received from Naseeruddin Shah on the sets of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.
Narrating the story, Rajesh shared that while his stint with comedy began by playing a dead body on a show, giving the necessary expressions was an art he learned gradually. While talking about Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, Rajesh Kumar recalled a day when Deven Bhojani scolded him for the same. He says, “One day Deven Bhojani got angry with me, he showed me the monitor and said that when it was my lines I was lively, but when I had no lines my expressions were dead. By then I had done a few shows, and I thought I was giving a reaction, but it was a blank face.”
He continued, “That day Naseeruddin sir was on set, and I could see that while I was being scolded he was there. After seven failed takes, Naseerji asked Deven for two minutes with me, he took me to the make-up room and said just one line to me. He said, ‘There are two kinds of actors – they are either born listeners, or they have to inculcate the habit of listening, start listening and your problem will be solved in whatever you do after this’, believe me, it took me 7 years to start hearing what the other person was saying.”
On the work front, Rajesh Kumar was seen on the big screen in Shahid Kapoor’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, after that he even starred in the latest season of Yeh Meri Family, and his latest project is Kota Factory. Another web show that Rajesh will be seen in is with Zee 5, it’s called Rautu Ka Raaz.
