For sometime now, producers, exhibitors, and distributors of films from South India have expressed their displeasure on how reviews by self-styled social media ‘critics’ is impacting their business. A lot of films that released lately, especially the ones high on VFX, have been a target of trolls and comparisons. Kalki 2898 AD also received a similar treatment upon its release. However, in his latest post on X, the director of the film Nag Ashwin has requested his followers to “save the analysis for later and celebrate Indian Cinema this weekend.”
Soon after Kalki’s release, social media was flooded with reviews about the Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan starrer film. While some called the first half dragged, others claimed Deepika Padukone had more screen time than Prabhas. Several others also said that Amitabh Bachchan overshadowed Prabhas’ character, while Disha Patani’s work was also criticised. There were also a set of people, who targeted Adipurush director Om Raut and asked him to learn how to make historical films without hurting people’s sentiments.
Amid all the reviews, analysis and comparisons, on Friday, Nag Ashwin took to his X handle to share a strong message with his followers. He wrote, “This weekend, let’s celebrate. The fandoms, the audiences, the languages that have come together. The doors that have opened, the possibilities for future filmmakers that are unlocked. Let’s save the analysis for later. This weekend let’s celebrate Indian Cinema!”

Nag Ashwin’s film has managed to cross the Rs 700 crore mark within seven days of its release. However, the film witnessed a significant drop in the theatre occupancy compared to its opening weekend. It needs to be seen if the film manages to cross the Rs 1000 crore mark in its second weekend.
The film, which had been in the making for around five years, is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 600 crore. Apart from Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan, the film also features actors Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan, and Mrunal Thakur in cameo roles. Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki 2898 AD hit the theatres worldwide on June 27.
