Actor-producer JD Majethia, known for his role as Himanshu in the iconic show Khichdi, recently shared details about a publicity stunt he pulled in front of Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat to promote the show’s first film, Khichdi: The Movie, in 2010. Majethia, who produced the film, recounted taking the film’s cast to Mannat along with cameras, hoping to catch Shah Rukh’s attention and get his support for the film.
Speaking about the incident on Radio Nasha, he said, “I will be very honest. We did a media stunt to promote our film. We thought we would go in front of Mannat and do something so that Shah Rukh sir would get baffled and ask about us, and of course he would know about the show Khichdi. There was media and fans there but we didn’t even know whether he was in Mannat at the time. We just went there without knowing anything.”
Though the cast left empty handed from Mannat without meeting SRK, the actor later met them at a press conference and promoted their film. Recalling the same, Majethia said, “Shah Rukh got to know later about us as someone told him that we are his big fans and that we want him to support our film. We built a relationship with SRK. He came from TV to films and Khichdi was also transitioning from TV to a film, so we thought he should support us.” He added, “He is such a good fellow. He came to meet us at a press conference of the film, talked to us very nicely and even spoke about our film to the media. ”
While Majethia achieved his goal, he still feels apologetic for pulling off a media stunt in front of Mannat without informing Shah Rukh. “But I am sorry Shah Rukh ji,” he said adding, “I really thank him. But before this it wasn’t that we went to Mannat and he didn’t meet us. It was a publicity stunt. He didn’t even know that we were there.”
This wasn’t the last time Majethia approached SRK. During the conversation, he revealed that he wanted to invite Shah Rukh to distribute trophies for the TV show Wagle Ki Duniya’s 1000th episode. He also approached the superstar’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, but the actor was busy at the time cheering for his team at the IPL. JD Majethia admitted that he even considered approaching SRK during one of the matches but stopped himself as he didn’t want to bother him.
He said, “I thought Wagle Ki Duniya completing 1000 episodes was a remarkable thing. Legendary artists worked on the show. Kundan Shah directed it, it was inspired by the work of cartoonist RK Laxman. So, I thought this show deserves a legend handing out trophies. But I was feeling so odd approaching SRK but I admit that I approached him for this also but now I won’t bother him.”
