Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s foray into the world of entertainment may have been low-key, but his recent release Maharaj has turned the spotlight on the young talent, earning him well-deserved recognition for his acting chops. Despite the weight of expectations that come with being a star kid, Junaid has carved his own path.
The young actor shares a unique bond with his father. While Aamir humorously claimed on Kapil Sharma’s show that his children don’t listen to him, Junaid playfully corrected this, revealing that they do, most of the time. He credits his father for fostering an environment of freedom and support, saying, “Dad actually always gives us freedom to be who we are. He appreciates us for that. He’ll never dictate, always suggesting, ‘Look, I feel this, but you should do what you want.’”
Aamir has often praised Junaid’s independence, recounting a story of his son taking a state bus from Pondicherry to Bengaluru instead of flying. However, in a recent interview with Etimes, Junaid clarified that the tale was slightly “exaggerated”. Opting for a bus was simply the most efficient way to travel, considering the overall journey time.
He added that taking up a flight would have been complicated and he would have had to spend two and a half hours going to Chennai and then spend two hours at the airport. He also highlighted that “Bengaluru’s notorious traffic” would have further increased his travel time.
Aamir Khan has been vocal about his son Junaid’s penchant for simplicity, particularly his aversion to owning a car. The superstar has often shared anecdotes about his attempts to gift Junaid a car, only to be met with resistance.
Now, Junaid has offered his perspective. In a recent interview with Connect Cine, Junaid clarified that his transportation choices boil down to practicality rather than any philosophical stance. “Papa makes a big deal out of small things,” he said. “I simply opt for the most efficient mode of transport. Rickshaws often prove to be the quickest way to navigate Mumbai’s traffic and parking woes.”
Aamir has previously painted a picture of Junaid as a quiet, introspective individual with a sharp intellect. He described his son as a “know-it-all” who preferred solitude to socialising. While acknowledging Junaid’s simple lifestyle, Aamir has expressed concern over his son’s reserved nature. “He is 30 now, and since his childhood, I wanted to buy a car for him. But to this day, he hasn’t allowed me to buy the car. He still uses public transport. He travels by bus and train,” Aamir told News18.
