Stree 2 continues to shine at the box office after two record-breaking weeks. On day 16 of its release, the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer horror comedy earned Rs 7.75 crore, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s domestic total stands at Rs 440.8 crore. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 witnessed an overall occupancy of 17.25% on Friday, with the majority of the tickets being sold for the night shows.
Stree 2 had over 4000 shows across India on its third Friday. The film witnessed an overall occupancy of 18.5% in Mumbai with 968 shows, followed by 18% occupancy in Delhi-NCR, where it had 1038 shows. Around 588 shows were scheduled in Ahmedabad, the third-highest in the country; the film witnessed an occupancy of 12.25% over the day there. On Friday, Maddock Films claimed that the film has collected Rs 453.6 crore net in India in 15 days of release, with the gross collections standing at Rs 535.24 crore.
Stree 2 has also broken records globally. With total collections now standing at around Rs 650 crore worldwide, Stree 2 is the second-biggest hit of the year, behind Kalki 2898 AD, which had made over Rs 1000 crore worldwide. In terms of original Hindi films, Stree 2 surpassed the lifetime total of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Fighter, in the very first week of its release.
Stree 2 had the second-highest second week collection of all time behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The horror-comedy beat the likes of Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2: The Katha Continues, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. Stree 2 is expected to have a good run over the weekend, with no big films having released this week.
Stree 2 is the sequel to the 2018 film Stree. It is the fifth installment in Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe. Apart from Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana in pivotal roles. Actors Akshay Kumar and Tamannaah Bhatia feature in special cameo appearances in the film. Stree 2 was released on Independence Day against Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa, both of which tanked at the box office.
