‘Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema was engaged to Rajendra Kumar’s son Kumar Gaurav, he left her Nargis’ daughter Namrata,’ claims Vijayta Pandit | Bollywood News

Kumar Gaurav and Vijayta Pandit were the most loved onscreen couple when they made their debut in the 1981 film Love Story and behind the scenes, the two had actually fallen in love with each other. Kumar Gaurav was the son of yesteryear superstar Rajendra Kumar, who was also producing the film, and as per Vijayta, he did not approve of their relationship and decided to get his son engaged to Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema. Filmmaker-actor Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar shared a close friendship but if Vijayta is to be believed, Kumar Gaurav wasn’t interested in this engagement and even tried to throw his ring away on the day of the engagement ceremony.

In a chat with Lehren Retro, Vijayta said that they had already shot for half the film when Rajendra Kumar decided to get his son engaged as he wanted to put an end to their love story. “After half the film was done, we were in love. Rajendra Kumar ji saw he is falling in love so he wanted to get him engaged. Him and Raj Kapoor had already spoken about getting their kids married. So him and Reema got engaged,” she shared.

Vijayta said that despite being in love with Kumar Gaurav at the time, she went to attend the engagement ceremony. “I saw that Reema had given a large diamond to him. He was getting so angry and he told me ‘if you don’t like it, I will throw it away’. I ran from there,” she said. Vijayta claimed that he continued to see her after getting engaged and when her parents objected to this, he promised them that he would marry their daughter. But she was in for another surprise when she found out that he had also been seeing Sunil Dutt and Nargis’ daughter Namrata.

“A few days later, I got to know that he was having an affair with Namrata Dutt. He broke his engagement with Reema but I had nothing to do with it,” she said. Kumar Gaurav married Namrata in 1984. They have two daughters. Vijayta married music composer Aadesh Shrivastava in 1990 and has two sons. He passed away in 2015 due to cancer. Reema married Manoj Jain and they are parents to actors Aadar Jain and Armaan Jain.
