With Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, it’s a mutual appreciation society. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan praised his longtime actor friend Rajinikanth, calling him “supreme of all stars” at a recent event for their upcoming film Vettaiyan. The actor recalled Rajinkanth’s humility during the shot of Hum at the event which brings them back together after 33 years.
Held in Chennai, Bachchan wasn’t present at the special event but sent in a special message for the occasion. The screen icon recalled shooting for the 1991 drama, which featured Rajinikanth and Govinda essaying the role of Bachchan’s younger brothers.
According to India Today, Bachchan began the address by mentioning how honoured he was that Vettaiyan was his first Tamil film. The megastar then recalled filming the Mukul Anand directorial with Rajinikanth, who, he said, is “the supreme of all stars.”
“I used to rest in my AC vehicle while shooting for Hum, and Rajini slept on the floor during breaks. Watching him be so simple, I came out of the vehicle and rested outside,” Bachchan said in his video message which was played at the launch. The duo has also acted in Andhaa Kanoon and Geraftaar.

The brotherhood between the two was on full display as later Rajinikanth lauded Bachchan’s resilience for over overcoming the bankruptcy he found himself induring the 1990s. Bachchan launched his company, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited at the time but it failed to take off and the firm soon went bankrupt, leaving the Bachchan family in a lot of debt.
Vettaiyan is directed by TJ Gnanavel, who last helmed the acclaimed Tamil legal drama Jai Bhim, which starred Suriya. The film, set to hit the screens on October 10, also stars Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan and VJ Rakshan.
