Disclaimer trailer: “They say that destiny knocks at the door. That is not true. Destiny doesn’t knock on any door. It crashes in without permission and grabs you mercilessly by your soul,” Stephen Brigstocke (Kevin Kline) declares, almost as if he is referring to himself as the destiny poised to reveal Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett), to the world, uncovering her true self.
The 150-second trailer of Academy Award-winning Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón’s Disclaimer is here, underscoring that the psychological thriller miniseries will lay bare the life of a renowned journalist who, the public believes, “in a career that spans nearly 20 years, cut through narratives and form that distract us from hidden truths”.
While the trailer shows that the battle is spearheaded by Stephen, it also reveals that his mission — to expose Catherine as not the beacon of truth that everyone believes — has merit. The situation is almost like the tables turning after many years.
“All these years, you have concealed parts of yourself from the world. You keep everyone in the dark to maintain a balance. And you think you have succeeded…” Catherine says, before coming across a copy of a book titled The Perfect Stranger, dedicated to the author’s son, Jonathan (Louis Partridge).

As she flips through its pages, she realises that the book narrates a chapter from her past, which she thought she had cleverly covered up. But as the truth emerges through the book, those around her begin to see that Catherine is not the righteous person she had portrayed herself to be, and she slowly starts losing everything in her life.
The trailer for Disclaimer ends with a disclaimer stating, “any resemblance to persons living or dead is not a coincidence.” Also starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Kodi Smit-McPhee and HoYeon Jung, the series will premiere on Apple TV+ on October 11, 2024.
