Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, a household name in Indian cinema, on Tuesday received India’s highest film honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony held at New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu.
On the red carpet of the the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, Mithun talked about receiving the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, the third-highest civilian honor in India, earlier this year. Though Mithun felt the Padma Bhushan award came later than expected in his illustrious career, he ultimately expressed heartfelt gratitude.

“I thought everyone was getting the Padma Bhushan, so why not me? People younger than me got before me. I didn’t get it for so long. But now I have finally received it,” Mithun told Doordarshan.
Mithun Chakraborty’s sentiment echoes the sentiment of many who feel that this recognition came late in his illustrious career, spanning over four decades. With an impressive filmography of over 350 movies, Mithun has showcased his versatility and dedication to the craft, leaving an lasting mark on Indian cinema.
Mithun Chakraborty’s acting legacy, spanning 48 years, began with a triumphant debut in Mrigayaa (1976), earning him the National Film Award for Best Actor. The Calcutta-born actor has since become synonymous with cinematic excellence, starring in films like Agneepath, Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye, and Hum Se Hai Zamana. His impressive repertoire earned him two more National Film Awards for Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1998). On the work front, Mihun was last seen in Kabuliwala in 2023.
