It is ironic that Port Adelaide star Jason Horne-Francis will line up against his old side in his 50th career match this afternoon.
Horne-Francis was drafted first overall by the Kangaroos and was hailed as the saviour of the struggling AFL club, before deserting after just one season.
Speaking with AFL.com.au, Horne-Francis has admitted he would “shy away” from being the top pick in the draft if he had his time again.
“There’s a lot of talk about how much pressure goes on the number one pick compared to even the number two,” he said.
“Dad and I joke about it and my little brother is growing up and we don’t know what he’s going to be but we always say we probably wouldn’t want him to go number one if he was in the draft with how much pressure there is now.
“I wanted to be recognised as the best in the draft which was OK for me at the time and I feel is still OK, but the pressure that came with it was a lot.”
