Amid trolling for Singham Again, Deepika Padukone reveals she was mocked for her accent and diction in Om Shanti Om: ‘Negativity pushed me to work on myself’ | Bollywood News

Actor Deepika Padukone recalled receiving criticism for her performance in 2007’s Om Shanti Om, with some audiences doubting her “talent and capabilities” and going so far as to mock her accent and diction in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer. It should be noted, however, that Deepika’s voice was dubbed by another artiste in Farah Khan’s film.

As a part of the Live Love Laugh lecture series, Deepika Padukone was in conversation with media mogul Arianna Huffington. During the chat, the actor opened up about dealing with “negativity” during her debut film. This comes at a time when the actor is being trolled for her dialogue delivery in the trailer of Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. The multi-starrer action comedy features her a police officer.

“When my debut movie Om Shanti Om released, there were quite a few bad reviews, but I specifically remember this one bad review which pushed me to work on myself. It spoke about my accent, my diction, my talent and capabilities. Negativity is sometimes a good thing, it’s what you make of it. The larger picture is what do you do with that criticism, how do you look at it positively,” she said.

In the same chat, Deepika then touched upon the importance of self-love, highlighting how people often look down upon those who prioritise their well-being. Deepika said if one decides to take a weekend off, people are quick to label them as someone “not motivated enough”.

“For someone who makes time for themselves, or takes a weekend off, people think that person is not driven, which I find so bizarre. If someone needs downtime or time for themselves, they think this person is not motivated enough so let’s look for someone who is ready to burn the midnight oil, because that person is hardworking, so committed. For me, it comes from being an athlete, that you need your rest, you need your recovery to perform better,” she added.

Deepika and her actor husband Ranveer Singh recently welcomed their first child, a baby girl. The actor will be seen on screen in Singham Again, set to release in cinemas on November 1.
