Amitabh Bachchan recently garnered praises for his larger-than-life look as Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi drama Kalki 2898 AD. The film also starred Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in signficant roles. While the film received praise for its unique plot, it seems like Amitabh Bachchan’s grandchildren didn’t like it much.
On a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, Amitabh Bachchan, during a conversation with one of the contestants, revealed he recently watched the Hollywood film Interstellar with his grandchildren but he didn’t understand it. When he conveyed the same to his grandchildren, they had a very shocking reply. Big B revealed that his grandchildren told him, “Even we didn’t understand Kalki”. He, however, didn’t specify which of his grandchildren (Navya Nanda, Agastya Nanda, and Aaradhya Bachchan) said so.
Kalki, made on a reported budget of Rs 600 crore, earned Rs 1041.65 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD. The film follows a select group who are on a mission to save lab subject SUM-80’s unborn child, who is presumed to be the saviour Kalki.
Previously, when the film crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark, Amitabh Bachchan had released a video thanking and congratulating the team. He said, “I’m here today to express my extreme gratitude to all the wonderful people who have been supportive in making our recently-released film, ‘Kalki’ and giving it the kind of appreciation, love and affection and it has now deserved its value to more than Rs 1000 crore. This is a great effort and belief in the makers of Vyjanti Films, the people that have been behind it, my respects to Ashwini Dutt [producer] whose faith in the subject to Priyanka and Swapna ji, for believing that something like this could actually take place.”
He added, “And of course, Nagi [Nag Aswin] for his extreme vision of ‘Kalki’. I want to also express my thanks and gratitude for the honour it has given me in being with my co-artistes of the stratospheric presence that they have had in the film industry and still do – Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika [Padukone], and all the actors and actresses that have taken part in this momentous occasion.”
Recalling the moment when Nag Ashwin approached him for the film and role of Ashwatthama, Amitabh Bachchan shared during the film’s trailer launch event, “When Nagi came and explained to me the idea… for a long time after he had left, I was thinking, ‘What the hell has Nagi been drinking?’ to think of something like this–absolutely something so outrageous. Some of the visuals that you saw just now are unbelievable to have somebody conceive. A project that is so futurustic and so possible. During the making of the film you realised, no matter what he thought of, he actually got all the material, all the effects, every kind of visual of vision he had. It was an amazing experience. For me, just to be a part of it will be an experience, I will never forget.”
