Ammy Virk, who is presently promoting his new Hindi film Khel Khel Mein, recently opened up about his struggles and shared that he grew up in a middle-class household. Ammy said that his father invested in his education and even sold their car so he could invest in Ammy’s first music album. In the same chat, the Punjabi singer-actor said that he feels proud of his modest roots and shared that he has come a long way since then as he now has a shower worth Rs 6 lakh in his house in the village.
In a chat with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Ammy said that he would often hear discussions of loans in his house when he was growing up. “My entire childhood, we would only hear about loans of Rs 25 lakh, Rs 30 lakh, interest rates, saving for sister’s wedding. That’s what happens in middle class families. Me and my brother were sent for expensive higher studies. Like a semester’s fee would be Rs 60,000-70,000. It’s not that we were poor or anything, we were blessed. My father educated us well, took care of us. Even my first album, my father put in money for that,” he said.
Ammy shared that after he gained some success in Punjab, he paid of his parents’ loans of Rs 30-40 lakh and then made a house for them in their village. “From 2013-2015, whatever money I earned, I put in all of that in that house in the village. We got Italian marble, full body showers everything. The showers in that house cost Rs 6 lakh,” he said.
Ammy said that they got their first AC in 2009 and shared that they now have nine ACs. “We got our first AC in 2009 and the six of us would sleep in the one room that had an AC. We were blessed that at least we had an AC. In the new house, we have 9 ACs. We have a home theatre and everything. You feel happy when you think about these things,” he said.
The Bad Newz actor recalled that his father actually sold their car, a Maruti Zen, so he could finance Ammy’s first music album. He joked, “People often ask me about the first car I bought, I tell them that I actually sold a car first.” He then added, “For my first album, my father sold our Zen for Rs 2.5-3 lakh and he got another Rs 2.5-3 lakh on loan and he put in all of that money on my first album.”
Ammy was recently seen with Vicky Kaushal in Bad Newz. He is known for Punjabi films like Qismat, Saunkan Saunkne, among others.
