Actor Ananya Panday opened about her superstitions, and said that she has her ‘nazar’ (evil eye) removed on a weekly basis. She said that she does this at her mother’s insistence, but admitted that she believes in these superstitions as well. The Panday family’s idiosyncrasies were presented before the world in the Netflix reality show The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, as well as in vlogs posted by Ananya’s cousin, influencer Alanna Panday. Recently, the family was also featured on Farah Khan’s YouTube channel, in a video where the topic of superstitions came up once again.

Appearing in a video posted on the Netflix India YouTube channel, she told comedian Raunaq Rajani, “I take out my nazar every week. The help at my house does the mirchi thing. You know the mirchi thing? So, if it smells a lot, it means you have nazar. If the mirchi burns a lot, you have nazar. I don’t know the science behind it… My mom put two black dots behind my ear before I came here. Everyone thinks I don’t shower or have something dirty behind my ear, but my mom keeps putting it again and again.”

Ananya said that she believes in the superstition, although the rest of the panelists said that they don’t. In a recent video on Farah Khan’s channel, the filmmaker-choreographer paid the Panday house a visit, and was curious to know why Ananya’s father, Chunky Panday, wasn’t at home. Ananya’s mother explained, “He’s getting his nazar removed.”

Ananya’s next film, CTRL, will be released on Netflix on Friday. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film has her playing a social media influencer who sucked into a web of conspiracy after her boyfriend goes missing. She was recently seen in the Prime Video series Call Me Bae, co-produced by Karan Johar, and before that, in the Netflix drama Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, co-produced by Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar.
