Actor Anita Hassanandani opened up about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Eijaz Khan, and said that she regrets changing herself to please him. She also listed the three red flags that she took away from their time together, and admitted that her mother wasn’t supportive of the relationship because of Eijaz’s religious background. Anita has been married to Rohit Reddy since 2013.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, she was asked about her much-publicised relationship with Eijaz, who is also a popular actor on television. She said, “That was one of the first few long-ish relationships of my life, and I’d also gone against my mom because he was from another culture. He was Muslim, and I’m a Hindu. She didn’t outright forbid it, but she always had her concerns. We were good individually, but we weren’t good for each other. It didn’t work out, and that’s that.”
Anita admitted that it was a ‘difficult breakup’, and it took her over a year to get over him. She said, “Somebody is wanting to change you in order to be in love with you, it’s not love. But I didn’t realise it then, because I was in love, and I was willing to change for the person I loved. I wish I hadn’t changed all that much, and been myself. I would’ve been a different person… It took me over a year to move on. I literally moved into my best friend’s house because I was so low. Every morning, she would pep me up…”
Asked if she spotted red flags during the relationship that she made sure to keep an eye out for in the future, Anita said, “Most importantly, do not be with somebody who is trying to change who you are. Keep checking their phones from time to time, because it’s important. If he’s hiding his phone, keeping it upside down, something is up boss. Third, taking you away from family and friends. You have to find a balance and prioritse correctly.”
This isn’t the first time that she has spoken about Eijaz. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, she said that she gave up on a Tamil film because of Eijaz. “I learnt a lot, I became a better person, we were just two very good people not good for each other. The only thing I regret is that I let go of my prime career,” she said.
