Rather than basking in the success of their horror-comedy Stree 2, which has finally pulled Bollywood out of its box office slump and revitalised cinema halls, the cast and crew have found themselves caught in a controversy over who deserves credit for drawing audiences into the halls. While some have attributed the film’s success to Rajkummar Rao, others claimed it highlights Shraddha Kapoor’s star power. However, the creative minds behind the movie, including director Amar Kaushik, have been left behind by the stars’ fan clubs.
Recently, Aparshakti Khurana, who plays a key role in Stree 2, commented on the matter, attributing the chaos to a “PR game.” Now, Khurana has clarified his older remarks and said that they were misconstrued. “It really gets misconstructed and honestly, I was taking everyone together. It’s funny that the narrative is the other way around. But having said that, I really don’t want to deep dive into this because I’ll really get emotional and break down. (Rahul) Bose knows this. I’ve spoken about it, I’ve had sleepless nights. I never thought that this would be something I would be blamed for,” he said during a chat with Bollywood Bubble.
“And people who know me, know that I can take a bullet in the chest in the middle of the night for my team, for my people, for my co-actors, for my writers, for my directors and each and every person on that set. From a light man to the spot boy – who comes from the production team not my team the production team, that’s why I don’t want to deep dive,” he added.

During an earlier interview with Zoom, when the interviewer suggested that Shraddha Kapoor’s popularity had surged post Stree 2, despite limited screen time, Khurana nodded and said, “See this is a PR game. If your channel goes and asks audience, the original audience on street, are they saying this? I want to know that. So, this is a PR game, I don’t want to comment on it.” However, he quickly followed up by expressing his affection for all his co-actors, noting that when a film achieves so much love and success, such discussions can feel slightly unpleasant.
Having grossed over Rs 759 crore worldwide, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, Stree 2 has already become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024 and ranks as the seventh highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
Even after 27 days, the movie continues to perform strongly, with its India nett collection on Day 27 being Rs 3.1 crore — surpassing the opening day numbers of many films this year. Also starring Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee, the film is a sequel to Stree (2018) and the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe.
