Contrary to common beliefs about film stars, the Khurana brothers, Ayushmann and Aparshakti, have always emphasised that they are teetotalers who prioritise their health. Recently, Aparshakti shared the real reason why neither of them ever tried smoking or drinking.
“Our father was a very strict person. When we finished school and entered college, he said, ‘if you want to go out and party, don’t come back home, crash at someone else’s place, no matter whose house it is, you don’t even have to tell me. There is no problem. But the day I get to know that you are drinking and smoking, you are done.’ So, we never tried it,” Aparshakti said while appearing on the podcast Cyrus Says.
When asked how he dealt with peer pressure, the Pati Patni Aur Woh actor immediately responded, “I was very scared of my father. To make it worse, he was an astrologer too. He would have instantly known that I was drinking. So, neither of us ever tried drinking or smoking. Once you cross that age and college, the charm (of drinking and smoking) ends.”
Astrologer and numerologist P Khurana passed away in Mohali, Chandigarh, on May 19, 2023, from a prolonged illness. Both Ayushmann and Aparshakti often posted pictures with their father, thanking him for his love and guidance. Ayushmann had also credited him with helping him achieve his dreams.
During an interview earlier this year, Ayushmann said that his father’s demise was the biggest heartbreak and reflected back on how his father taught him to be detached from things. “I never had a heartbreak. I only had a heartbreak when my father passed away, that is the only heartbreak I ever had. Apart from that, I never had a heartbreak. But I am glad because he trained me to be detached. He trained us to be detached from your work, people and relationship. It makes you happy. I am little detached like that. I believe that if you are detached, you can easily deal with heartbreak. People who are detached are generally happy,” he told Bollywood Hungama.
While Aparshakti was last seen in Vikramaditya Motwane and Soumik Sen’s streaming series Jubilee, Ayushmann’s previous film appearance was in director Raaj Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl 2.
