As Indian football icon Sunil Chhetri announced his formal retirement from international football, many Bollywood celebrities took to social media to bid him farewell and honour his achievements. Ranveer Singh was among the first ones to comment on Sunil Chhetri’s Instagram post, with a teary-eyed emoji. Other than Ranveer, Arjun Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan also penned heartfelt notes honouring the legend. While Arjun described it as the ‘end of an era’, Abhishek was seen thanking the sports star for his significant contributions to Indian football.
Chhetri shared a photo of himself facing a stadium, and captioned it, ‘Alright, then’. Pankaj Tripathi commented on his post saying, “Lots of love and best wishes friend!” Arjun Kapoor posted a photo of Chhetri on his Instagram stories, and wrote, “End of an era. Thank you, Sunil Chhetri, for the memories, the passion, and the unmatched dedication.” Arjun has been a known football enthusiast.

Abhishek Bachchan also paid tribute to Sunil Chhetri through an Instagram post. He wrote, “Congratulations Cap on such a Legendary career! It has been an honour to see you play for the country and lead by example. To one of the greatest ever Indian sportsmen… Thank you!”
Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar also lauded Chhetri for his legendary career, during which he served as the captain of India’s national football team. His final match was the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier against Kuwait. Having a stellar record of 94 international goals, Chhetri is the fourth-highest goal scorer in the world.
