Ashutosh Rana says Renuka Shahane gifted him a car because he’d travel to premieres in taxis and trains: ‘I was amazed’ | Bollywood News

What will you do for love? Ask actor Ashutosh Rana, whose wife, Renuka Shahane, gifted him a brand-new car at a time when he would travel to film premieres in local trains and taxis. Ashutosh, who has been married to Renuka since 2001, recalled her romantic gesture, which he reciprocated. In an interview with Mashable, Ashutosh said he is passionate about cars, but muffled his love for them even when he started earning well, because he wanted to remain grounded.

Ashutosh recalled that he travelled to the premiere of his film Dushman in a local train and a taxi, as his guru had told him he wouldn’t become “lesser of a star” if he doesn’t have a car. Starring Kajol and Sanjay Dutt, Dushman is considered to be Ashutosh’s breakout film, with praise being directed at his performance as a murderer.

“Later, the film was nominated for Filmfare award, so I asked my guru if I should buy a car now because it was a big award night! He asked, ‘If you go by cycle, will they not give you an award?’ He said just be carefree, go the way you are. I didn’t say anything. A week before the event, he called me and asked, ‘What is the biggest car today?’ I told him Honda City. He said you can get this.”

“I was shooting for Sangharsh then, and I learned that Renuka was already there, with a brand-new car. She told me, ‘This is for you, my gift!’ and I was amazed! We were in a relationship back then she was my girlfriend. So, when she gifted me that, I bought a Lancer for her! We both gifted cars each other,” he recalled.

The actor said he had been fond of driving since his college days at Dr Hari Singh Gaur University Sagar, in Madhya Pradesh. Ashutosh said he has travelled across India by road in his car.

“I drive it myself. I have also gone to Nepal by road, mapped the entire country. Even when I was studying in Madhya Pradesh, I would ride a motorcycle. I mapped the entire state on my two-wheeler. I had a Bullet and then I got Yamaha RX 100! Now, I am fond of SuVs,” he added.

On the work front, Ashutosh Rana has had a packed last two years, having featured in films like Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, and Hrithik RoshanDeepika Padukone-starrer Fighter. He also starred in several series, including Murder In Mahim, Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond, and the Neeraj Pandey written Netflix show Khakee: The Bihar Chapter.
