Many Australian consumers are unaware of the extent of personal data being collected about them on a day-to-day basis, according to a new report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

It would take the average user almost 46 hours a month to read every privacy policy they encountered in full, according to ACCC’s latest interim report on the Digital Platform Services Inquiry.

On average, there were 6,876 words in a typical privacy policy – it would take 29 minutes to read one.
