Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk’s film Bad Newz has been in the theatres for four days now and while the film saw a promising first weekend at the box office, it saw a massive drop on its first Monday. After making over Rs 11 crore on Sunday, Bad Newz could only collect Rs 3.5 crore on Monday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This means the film’s collections fell by over 68 percent taking its nett domestic total to Rs 33.2 crore.
Upon its release, Bad Newz became the biggest opener for Vicky Kaushal as it collected more money than his biggest hit, Uri. After four days in the theatres, Uri had made Rs 46.24 crore and it appears that the 2019 film will continue to be the biggest hit of the actor. Bad Newz was also being compared to Crew and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (TBMAUJ) as its opening figures were quite in line with these two films. The Anand Tiwari film was also targeted towards the same audience and so far, the collections have been quite similar. Crew and TBMAUJ also saw a fall of over 60 percent on their first Monday.
As per Sacnilk, Bad Newz has made Rs 54 crore worldwide which seems promising for a film that has only made approximately Rs 33 crore in India. Bad Newz has done considerably well in comparison to last week’s release Sarfira which has only managed to make Rs 21.42 crore during its 11 day theatrical run.
Bad Newz saw 13.65 percent occupancy on Monday with night shows getting the highest occupancy at 17.54 percent. In the Delhi-NCR region with 1084 shows, the occupancy was at 15 percent and in Mumbai, with 780 shows, the occupancy was at 15.5 percent.
Bad Newz does not have much competition through the week so it looks like this could be another winner for Vicky after last year’s Zara Hatke Zara Bachke which managed to make over Rs 80 crore at the box office. Dharma Productions, the makers of the film have announced a ‘Buy One Get One’ offer on tickets as well which could help the film even further.
