Bigg Boss 18 house tour: Kitchen like a cave, bedroom designed like a fort, Turkish hammam in bathroom. Watch | Television News

Bigg Boss 18 is all set to kick off on October 6. As Salman Khan returns to hosting this reality show, this time the theme is ‘time ka taandav’. As indianexpress.com reported earlier, the show will deal with the concepts of past, present, and future. Interestingly, this theme has been weaved into the set. The Bigg Boss 18 house this time represents the era of the caves and forts. It showcases huge motifs, intricate sculptures, and very warm and earthy colours compared to previous years.

This year, the house has secret entrances, hidden doors and cameras, and also certain spots that might not be easily visible. As one enters the garden area, huge pillars and a pathway lead to the house entrance that not only grabs attention but also divides the space. The bathroom theme is inspired by a Turkish hammam, and its entrance has a huge Trojan horse that consists of a space to sit, giving one a top view of the house.

The living room is a combination of urban and earthy, and once again, the sitting area is placed in one corner with a huge dining table taking the center spot. The kitchen is designed like a cave, while the bedroom area gives the vibe of visiting a fort. The jail is an interesting part of the house.

Luxurious as always, it took 45 days and close to 200 workers to design the Bigg Boss 18 house.

Festive offer

Talking about the theme of the house, art director Omung Kumar said, “This year we decided to do something Indian because it has not been done for a long time. One specification the creative team had was that they wanted levels in the house. India is so beautiful and we hadn’t tapped into that, so we did that. The entrance is a tribute to the pre-historic era. This year is about the claustrophobia of the cave. Everything is muted in terms of colours, but it will eat you up later on. There are hidden entrances, and secret doors in the house. The best part is that the house will be confusing initially for the contestants.”

Sharing how work began on this house right after Bigg Boss OTT 3 ended, Omung said, “It took 45 days to make the set, work started soon after OTT. It takes 5-6 days to expand and open the house. We started straight away.” He also shared how making the floor plan is the most challenging aspect for the Bigg Boss set. “Designing the house takes half a day, but it is the floor plan that takes a lot of time and it is made first. That planning is very important. The steps in the bedroom were the most complicated idea this year because it can get tiring for the contestants after a point.”

Giving an overview of how budgeting works to design a house filled with luxuries, Omung Kumar admits that he does go overboard always. “It’s always a fight. We know what the budget is, but I always go overboard. The budget goes for a toss, my office keeps calling, but then I believe that the name matters. When Vanita and I go to shop, we go overboard, but then we have to balance it out. Then we channel ourselves as to where should the money be seen and how much time it takes. Are we doing night shifts? That’s where the money goes because 100-200 people are working. So we have to be smart about what should be seen and what shouldn’t,” he explained.

While Omung shares that the sitting area with an elephant motif is his favorite spot, he recalls how another huge motif left him in doubt. “When we made that huge face, I didn’t like it all. I thought we messed up, something felt wrong, and then we cracked the face. We crave to make the house picture-perfect every year,” Omung said on a parting note.

Bigg Boss 18 airs on Colors TV from Monday to Sunday, and the show will also be live-streamed on the Jio Cinema app.
