After minting lower-than-expected revenue in its first week, Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion is maintaining a steady streak at the box office and is on the verge of crossing the Rs 50 crore mark after its second weekend. According to Sacnilk, the film raked in Rs 6.50 crore on Sunday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 49.25 crore.
Positive reviews and word-of-mouth promotion have helped Chandu Champion maintain a strong hold at the box office despite the release of a new film—Pashmina Roshan and Rohit Saraf’s Ishq Vishk Rebound. On Sunday, Ishq Vishk Rebound collected Rs 1.40 crore, the film’s highest single-day collection since its release on Friday. This has brought the film’s total domestic collection to Rs 3.55 crore.
After a slow start at the box office, Chandu Champion saw a rise in collections during its first weekend. However, the film continued its lukewarm performance throughout the first week, minting Rs 35.25 crore in its first seven days. The second week showed a slight increase in collections, with the film capitalising on its second weekend.
Despite being a bigger film with a major star, Chandu Champion faced competition from Sharvari and Mona Singh’s Munjya, which was released a week earlier. For instance, while Munjya had collected Rs 15 crore during its second weekend, Chandu Champion has managed to mint Rs 11.35 crore in the same period.
Chandu Champion’s director Kabir Khan earlier opened up about the low opening collection of his sports biopic drama, stating that while the Kartik Aaryan film had a slow start at the box office, it is here for the long run. He told Bollywood Hungama, “The opening was definitely lower than what we all were expecting because of the tremendous response to the trailer, to the song units that were out. So one would expect a slightly healthier opening but that didn’t pan out the way we wanted to.”
He added, “We still believe in the film strongly, we are happy with the film and are inundated with the love.”
