Karan Johar has worn many hats in the entertainment industry — as a film director, producer, television personality, host, costume designer and actor. As the head of Dharma Productions, one of India’s most prominent production and distribution companies, he has launched several actors and filmmakers, cementing his name in Bollywood. As a result, whenever the topics of “privilege” and “nepotism” in the film industry crop up during discussions, Karan’s name is often one of the first to be mentioned.
However, it seems Karan’s “privilege” didn’t serve him when he needed it most. Like millions of fans around the world, Karan too went online on Sunday to buy tickets for Coldplay’s upcoming concerts during the Mumbai leg of their Music of the Spheres World Tour in 2025. Despite his efforts, the director-producer was unable to secure even one ticket, leaving him disappointed.
Following the setback, Karan took to Instagram stories to share a humorous post about how the incident kept his privilege in check. “Dear privilege, I love that Coldplay and mini Kelly always keep you grounded… you can’t get everything you want, my darling… Lots of love… Frugal,” he wrote.
This comes despite Coldplay adding a third show to the Mumbai leg of their tour due to overwhelming demand. Initially, the band had announced two shows on January 18 and 19, 2025, at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai. Now, a third show is scheduled be held at the same venue on January 21. This will be Coldplay’s first performance in India in eight years, after they last played in Mumbai during the Global Citizen Festival in 2016. The Music of the Spheres World Tour, which kicked off in Costa Rica on March 18, 2022, will conclude at London’s Wembley Stadium on August 31, 2025.
