Actor Triptii Dimri spoke about feeling nervous in front of her talented co-stars Vicky Kaushal and Rajkummar Rao, while working with them on the films Bad Newz and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. She said that it took her a while to open up in front of Vicky, whose dance skills impressed her greatly. She also praised Rajkummar for nailing difficult scenes with great ease, as she spoke about her evolution as a performer. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Triptii said that acting wasn’t her first love, but she decided to pursue it because she didn’t want a regular life for herself.
Triptii started out with lead roles in films such as Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, and Qala, but she broke out into the mainstream with a supporting role in the controversial film Animal. Asked if she felt whiplash after Animal, when she started doing populist entertainers like Bad Newz and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Triptii revealed that she had actually signed both these films before Animal came out. She admitted that she was nervous on set, and said, “I don’t want to ever get to a point where I don’t like acting. I want to go to a set and enjoy the process. Drama is something I’ve really enjoyed doing, but then comedy happened, and every day on set, I was like, ‘I don’t know acting, I’m back to square one’.”
She continued, “I would see a Vicky Kaushal and a Rajkummar Rao killing it. They would read the lines and make them into something so beautiful… There are films where you have to be on set an improvise… With comedy, you have to be awake all the time. With drama, you can take your time… I find it more difficult. But now I’ve found my peace there also. Earlier, with Vicky, I was so nervous. For three days, I was (frozen). We shot the song first. I didn’t even interact with Vicky properly because I was so nervous looking at him perform. It took me 5-10 days to get used to the crew, the scale of the film, the director…”
She went through something similar on the set of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. “It was a full-on comedy, and when you’re acting with Rajkummar Rao, Archana Puran Singh, such brilliant actors, you’re like, ‘How are they doing it?’ We would perform, and there would be crew members and background artists who would just laugh. Rajkummar can finish a two-page monologue in one go, without messing up the lines. There’s so much to learn, every day.” Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video will be released on October 11, after which Triptii will be seen alongside Kartik Aaryan in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which is set for a Diwali release.
