Dev Anand was one of the early superstars of the Hindi film industry and he continued to make movies until he died in 2011. In his later years, Dev was just making movies because he loved them and he didn’t really care much for how they performed at the box office, or how people perceived them. It was in this phase that actor Rajeev Khandelwal once met Dev Anand and was left in awe of the actor’s aura. Rajeev recalled that Dev had called him to narrate a film and even though he knew that he wasn’t going to do the film, he went in just to meet Dev saab.

Talking to Radio Nasha, Rajeev Khandelwal said, “Dev saab called me for a film. I went there but I knew that I am not going to do this film because the kind of films he was making in those days… I knew that I didn’t want to do it. But I wanted to meet Dev saab.” Rajeev said that he doesn’t usually touch people’s feet but in Dev’s saab case, he wanted to show his respect and love, and so he bent down to touch the veteran actor’s feet. But, Dev Anand stopped him. “I went to Dev saab and I touched his feet. He stopped me there and asked ‘what are you doing?’ I said ‘sir, you inspire me’. He said ‘if that is the case then I should be touching your feet because youngsters like you inspire me a lot.’”

He also admitted to asking some “idiotic questions” from Dev saab. “I asked some idiotic questions but I asked them anyway. I said ‘sir, do you get any Botox? Because your skin looks so fresh even now. Of course, there are some lines on your neck but the skin looks so fresh.’ He said ‘nothing, just think good, be happy, be positive, that’s it. He laughed when I asked him,” he recalled.

Rajeev said that he Dev Anand had called him to offer him a film and after the narration was done, Rajeev knew that he wasn’t going to do the film. “I had to say no but I really felt sad that I was refusing a film by Navketan. But I was fortunate enough to have met Dev saab,” he said.
