Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, who created history by becoming the first Indian to perform at Coachella, recently recalled the time when he almost ran away from his house at the age of 8. The Punjabi singer said it was because of a girl in his school due to which he decided to run away and even had to lie to his parents to skip school. In a recent interview, Diljit shared the incident from his childhood in detail. “I thought it was end of the world”, said Diljit.
Talking to Raj Shamani, the Crew actor said, “I tried to run away from my home at at the age of 8. There was a girl in my school, because of her I tried to run away from my house. When I was in school, my seniors were randomly asking all us, ‘Tereko kaun ladki pasand hai?’ I pointed towards this girl and said, ‘I like her.’ So my senior was like, ‘Go confess it to her and then you will get married to her only.’ I was like okay. I went to the girl and told her that you and I will get married. She went and complained to my teacher and my teacher was like ‘Go get your parents.’ For me, it was the end of the world.”
He added, “So, the 8-year-old me opened the fridge, picked two bananas, some other fruits, took my cycle and just left. I just went say five minutes away from my house when one of the villagers just yelled at me, ‘Where are you going, go back to your home.’ Earlier, in villages, it was never like nobody apart from parents can yell at you. It was very common for the villagers to yell and shout at kids in the village, they were all like a family, they sometimes even slapped. So, this man made me return home when I tried to leave. Then, the next day, I lied about a stomach ache and skipped school for two days. Then my teacher also let me go.”
Diljit Dosanjh, who is gearing up for the release of his film Jatt & Juliet 3, recently announced he is featuring on the highly popular The Tonight Show by Jimmy Fallon. The actor-singer will be seen on the show alongside Eddie Murphy and Matty Matheson.
