Actor and former Member of Parliament Govinda, who accidently shot himself in the leg and was admitted to the ICU on Tuesday, is doing “much better” and will be shifted to a normal ward on Wednesday. Actors Shatrughan Sinha and Raveena Tandon, producer Pahlaj Nihalani and Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja gave updates about the actor’s health. Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch also launched an investigation in the case.

‘Govinda to be discharged with 48 hours’: Sunita

Actor’s wife Sunita Ahuja shared an update about his health outside the Criti Care hospital in Juhu, where he underwent an emergency surgery following the accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sunita said the 60-year-old actor is “better now” and urged fans to not panic. She added that Govinda is recovering swiftly and if it continues, he might also be able to dance in the next few months.

“He will be shifted to a normal ward today. He is much better than yesterday and within the next 48 hours, he might be also discharged from the hospital. He has truly recovered, thanks to all the prayers of the fans. I’d urge them to not panic, in a few months he will be able to dance as well,” she added.

Producer Pahlaj Nihalani, close friend of Govinda and his longtime collaborator, also visited the actor last evening and told Zoom that he was “his normal cheerful self.” The producer added that people claiming to be close to him should stop giving “misleading alarmist” update about the actor, as he was well on his way to recovery.

“I was just happy to see him happy and normal. There are all kinds of speculative reports about Govinda’s health. Someone says he was ‘able to talk.’ Arrey bhai, what do you mean by he was able to talk? Why wouldn’t he able to talk? Goli paon mein lagi hai mooh mein nahin (the gun shot wound is in his leg, not mouth). I request his so- called friends to stop giving misleading alarmist reports. Govinda is fine, very normal and looking forward to returning home,” he added.

‘No ifs and buts in accident’: Shatrughan Sinha on accidental misfire

Shatrughan Sinha also visited the actor in the hospital and spoke to the media stationed outside, clarifying further that it was merely an “accident.” He said, “Govinda is stable, his condition is good… it was an accident. There are no ifs and buts in accidents. He received treatment.”

Govinda’s long-time co-star and friend Raveen Tandon was also spotted arriving at the hospital in the morning to meet the actor. Several others from the industry have also met Govinda so far, including David Dhawan and Kashmeera Shah.

Crime Branch begins investigation in Govinda incident

According to a PTI report, the Mumbai crime branch personnel met Govinda and enquired with him about the incident on Wednesday. While the local police have been conducting an investigation, the Mumbai crime branch has also initiated a parallel enquiry into the incident. o one has lodged any complaint in this matter so far, police said.

In an audio statement released to the media on Tuesday, Govinda had expressed gratitude to his well-wishers. The actor said, “Namaste, pranam. I am Govinda. Due to your blessings, my parents’ blessings, and the grace of my guru… I was shot, but the bullet has been removed. I thank the doctors here, especially Dr. Garwal. Thank you all for your prayers and support.”
