Actor Aamir Ali opened up about how fame and money changed him as a person, and admitted that for around a year, he became too arrogant to handle. He said that he rectified his mistakes, as he recalled ticking off producers such as Ekta Kapoor, and receiving a ‘notice’ from Balaji for ‘disrupting’ a shoot. He also narrated a story about getting an executive banished from the set because he refused to work as long as they were present.
In a chat with BLive Studio, Aamir said that his troubles with authority began as far back as his first show on television, which he abruptly declared that he wanted to quit. When he informed Balaji about his decision, he was told by executive Sandeep Sikand, “Ekta band baja degi teri (Ekta will lose her mind).”
Opening up about the year or so when his demands became unreasonable, he said, “I would only work for eight hours, and wouldn’t come to set before noon. Shooting was affected. I got into an argument with the channel’s production head, so I laid down an ultimatum that it was either going to be him or me. The poor guy was banished from set for eight months because I refused to work if he was around.”
To get over the rut that he was experiencing in television, Aamir decided to mentally condition himself. He would pretend that he was paid to go on a picnic, and began to organise cricket matches on set. He would ask to be let off during work hours and go play cricket. “I went to work to have fun. I would have a PlayStation in my room. It was only for me, not for anybody else. I was behaving arrogantly. I even got a notice from Balaji for disrupting the shoot because villagers nearby started playing cricket with me, and other actors began to join in,” he said.
Aamir said that nobody outside of work knew what was happening. “If I’d have told my mother, she’d have slapped me,” he said. Aamir started out as a flight attendant before becoming a model. He wanted to become a movie star, but moved to television when his career in the films didn’t take off.
