YRF’s Dhoom, which completed 20 years on Tuesday, was one of the biggest hits of 2004. The film starred John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Esha Deol and Rimi Sen and in a new interview, Esha shared that she never auditioned for the YRF film and got six months for her body transformation. At the time, Esha’s bikini look in the film made a lot of noise and she had famously said that she took permission from her mother Hema Malini for the same. Now, when she was asked if she also took permission from her father, veteran actor Dharmendra, for the same, Esha said she didn’t need to.
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Esha was asked if she took permission from both Hema and Dharmendra and she shared, “No. Getting permission from my mom was as good as (getting permission from my father).” In an earlier chat with Bollywood Bubble, Esha had said that when producer Aditya Chopra told her that she would have to wear a bikini in the film, she told him to give her a day so she could ask her mother’s permission and by her own admission, she was “very scared” when she asked Hema. “Her reaction was very different. She was like ‘Ya wear, what is there in that. You wear it when you go out with your friends and you wear it on holidays, so wear. Make sure it is shot nicely,” she shared. Esha has previously said that her father was “possessive and orthodox” when it came to her.
Talking about how she landed the film, Esha recalled that she wasn’t auditioned but had a look test. “It was more of a look test but I was given time to get into that kind of a mould. I worked out a lot.” Esha had appeared in films like Kucch To Hai, Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa and Naa Tum Jaano Na Hum but Dhoom was the biggest hit of her career until then.
Dhoom later turned into a franchise but Esha Deol never appeared in the franchise’s films and when asked how she felt about not being approached for the future films, the actor said, “I guess they never repeated the negative characters I think. Even John didn’t get repeated.” Upon discussing how John, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan, who were the main antagonists of the three films, also never appeared again, she said, “So, there’s always that door open.”
Dhoom 3, the last installment of the franchise released 11 years ago and while there has been some chatter about Dhoom 4 in the last decade, YRF is yet to announce the film. When asked if Esha would like to be a part of the franchise, the actor replied in the affirmative.
Esha Deol was last seen in the web series Hunter Tootega Nahi Todega with Suniel Shetty.
