Days before the release of Stree 2, the Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starrer was caught in plagiarism controversy as the poster of Amar Kaushik‘s film looked quite similar to the Stranger Things 2 poster. Netizens have found several similarities between the two posters, as they took to social media to share their reactions. They pointed out the similarities in the colour schemes, layout, and other details, describing the Stree 2 poster as a “direct lift”. See here:

Stree 2 is the much awaited sequel of Amar Kaushik’s Stree (2018), and the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Stranger Things 2, on the other hand, was how Netflix chose to title the second season of its hit coming-of-age series. Season 2 of Stranger Things dropped on the streaming platform in 2017.

While some netizens have called Stree 2 poster a “direct lift” of the Stranger Things 2 poster, some fans have defended it, saying that even if the colour scheme looks similar, the background is different. They also said that the Stree 2 poster has a lot of film references on it. However, since both the show and the film share a supernatural theme, there are several similarities as well. One user commented, “Stree 2 poster is heavily lifted from Stranger Things 2,” while another person wrote, “Is it a direct lift?” Yet another person wrote, “Why does this look so inspired by Stranger Things 2?”

Stree 2 is all set to release in theatres on August 15, alongside Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa. The Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer is leading the race, having sold over 100,000 tickets within just 48 hours of the advance bookings opening.

The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurrana, Sunita Rajwar, among others. Actors Tamannah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan will be seen in special cameos in the film.
