‘Feroz Khan was not an expressive father; he was an intimidating person with a famous temper, I was scared of him’: Fardeen Khan | Bollywood News

Fardeen Khan, who made his acting debut with the 1998 film Prem Aggan — written, produced and directed by his father, Feroz Khan — recently spoke about their complex relationship. In a recent interview, Fardeen revealed that Feroz Khan was not an expressive father, and that while he was protective, he was also intimidating. “He was mostly into himself,” Fardeen said in an interview with Pinkvilla.

Fardeen recently made his acting comeback after a gap of 14 years, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Admitting that he wasn’t fully prepared for his first film, Fardeen said, “I was definitely raw for my first movie, I wasn’t ready. Also, working with my father, someone who has larger-than-life personality, someone who I was pretty bloody scared of… He was liberal, but you wouldn’t want to mess with the FK. Some of my friends used to call me ‘FK’ and if he was around, he would say, ‘There is only one FK’.” Fardeen’s debut film tanked at the box office.

“He was liberal, he let you be, but he was also known for his temper, that’s common knowledge. Sometimes, I deserved the wrath of his temper. He was an intimidating person,” the Heyy Babyy actor added.

Feroz Khan passed away in 2009 at the age of 69. Remembering his father, Khan said, “Nothing can fill the vacuum of a parent. I miss him. I come from him, you feel a part of me.” However, he added, Feroz Khan wasn’t an expressive father.

He said, “He would tell everyone else how much he loves me, my boy, my son; but to me, never. Maybe, in the later years he became a little expressive, but not initially. He was very, very into himself. He was protective, but not very expressive. He was protective of his tribe. My mother made it up for it. I have a beautiful relationship with her. Right now, she is not happy with me. I have been a little stupid. We keep having a few of our spats here and there, so we just had one of those spats.”

Festive offer

Fardeen, who is a father of two, said that he makes it a point to not repeat his father’s mistakes with his own children. He said, “I am extremely expressive with my kids. Lot of hugs, lot of cuddles, lot of doing everything together. I actively make them express how they feel and I make my feelings known. It is very important lesson to validate your feelings, to value them and to share them in a positive way. That is something I had to learn the rough way by not being expressive and keeping everything inside. This is one of the things I am trying to teach my kids.”

Fardeen, who is married to Natasha Madhvani, the daughter of veteran actor Mumtaz, recently made his comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heermandi. Next, Fardeen will be seen in Khel Khel Mein, which is scheduled for an Independence Day release. The film will mark his second collaboration with Akshay Kumar, after their 2007 film Heyy Babyy.
