Imtiaz Ali has made many popular films in the last couple of decades and the characters of Imtiaz’s films continue to thrive in popular culture. At the recent Expresso event hosted by The Indian Express, Imtiaz was asked where would some of his most popular characters be today, years after their stories came to an end in his movies, and Imtiaz had some fun insight to share.
When asked where would Geet and Aditya be today, Imtiaz immediately said, “At a divorce lawyer’s office.” Imtiaz’s response made the audience laugh as the fictional couple from Jab We Met was seen as the picture perfect couple back when the film released in 2007. The movie starred Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor.
Imtiaz Ali was then asked about the whereabouts of Jordan from his film Rockstar, which was played by Ranbir Kapoor. The filmmaker shared, “I think he would have become a corrupt music industry head. Like he would have his own company and he would be completely fake and corrupt.”
Imtiaz also shared his thoughts about Tamasha’s Ved and Tara and said that he actually wanted another ending for the film. In the movie, Ranbir’s Ved and Deepika Padukone’s Tara end up together but Imtiaz said that he would have liked if they ended up not getting together. “You know the ideal ending of Tamasha would have been if they hadn’t gotten together but he would have still idolized her as his muse. I wish that was the ending actually but that thought came a little late so in that scenario they would be separate and she would always be watching his shows but not telling him that she had come for it,” he said. But given how the film ended, Imtiaz said that “they would be doing shows together”.
Imtiaz Ali’s last release was Amar Singh Chamkila, the biopic of the slain Punjabi singer which starred Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role. Imtiaz is yet to announce his next film.
HSBC presents Expresso in association with Taj Hotels was held at Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad on July 5.
