Govinda was notoriously known for his tardiness on film sets in the 1990s and many of his colleagues from the time have opened up about the same. But, very few people have discussed the speed at which the actor would work when he was present on a film set. In a recent interview, actor Abhishek Bannerjee recalled an incident that director David Dhawan shared with him about the Raja Babu actor. Abhishek shared that Govinda was “genius enough” to finish 12 hours worth of work in just two hours and spoke about the time when David and the actor were shooting in Paris.
Abhishek, in a conversation with The Lallantop, shared, “Once David sir told me, they were shooting something in Paris near Eiffel Tower. They had to shoot a segment there, It was perhaps Hero No 1. They didn’t the permission to shoot there and they didn’t have much time. Govinda just told him that ‘you switch on the camera’. And whatever they had to shoot, the steps of the song, he did it with the group in just 15-20 minutes. And they were done. They just got out of there after that.” Karisma Kapoor was also a part of the dance number with Govinda.
Abhishek continued, “You can’t do that today. I don’t know anyone who can do that. I don’t know if anyone is professional enough to do that that. This is a kind of professionalism too that you know that you just have limited time and you have to get the job done.”
Previously, in a chat with YouTube channel Reviewron Ronak Kotecha, producer Vashu Bhagnani had said that during the shoot of Hero No 1, Govinda did not show up on set for three days, but when he did come, he finished almost all the work in just a single day. Vashu recalled an incident where a unit of 75 people sat idle in Switzerland for three days because Govinda had not even arrived in the country. He then complimented the actor and said, “At 7:30, he gave the first shot. It was the number 1 song of the film. He finished 70 per cent of the song in one day. He wasn’t there for three days but he finished 70 per cent of it in one day. That’s worth appreciating.”
