A routine promotional interview for a film produced a viral clip thanks to one crucial ingredient that’s often missing from such interactions: Candidness. Actor Gulshan Devaiah surprised his Ulajh co-star Janhvi Kapoor as he publicly revealed that he didn’t “vibe” with her while working on the upcoming thriller. In an interview with Film Companion, Gulshan confessed that there was a distance between them, but declared that Janhvi is a professional who didn’t let the awkwardness get in the way of her performance. “It is not like we are sitting and chatting, we don’t vibe at all, actually. I don’t think she finds me funny, interesting or anything like that,” he said.
Gulshan’s revelation made Janhvi burst out in nervous laughter, having been completely taken aback by his candid on-camera confession. “I think this is the funniest thing you have said,” she said.
“Yes, but we don’t! I was like, ‘Bro we are not vibing, this is not happening,’” Gulshan said, and added, “So, it’s not going to be like we are going to spend time and get to know somebody and use that familiarity in the performance. That’s not going to happen. That happens at other places with other actors, you vibe like that. Not necessarily become friends but you find something common, interesting about them or something to do together.”
He then complimented Janhvi, saying that despite these issues, they got the job done. Gulshan noted that Janhvi was a “professional,” who did her job. “But I never felt that it was getting in the way of us doing the scenes, it didn’t feel like, ‘Oh I am not getting enough or something is lacking.’ I never felt that. We were trying to achieve whatever the director wanted and that was coming together! Because she is a professional actor, doing her job,” he said.
Janhvi then revealed that someone had asked her to go out for coffee with Gulshan, assuming that the actor, who made his debut almost a decade before she did, was “intimidated” by her.
“I got a call once on set saying, ‘I feel you and Gulshan should go for coffee, together. Because between takes you aren’t cracking jokes.’ And she was like, ‘Maybe you should laugh at his jokes because otherwise he might be feeling a little intimidated,” she added, as the camera cut to Gulshan, who said, “No, not at all.”

The video also caught the attention of actor Vijay Varma, who commented, “I think the journalists are only trained and prepared to hear ‘we were like a family’ narrative. They need the training and not @gulshandevaiah78. Tu mast Aadmi and with the talent hai re gullu and personality you have.. I know you don’t get intimidated easily.”
Actor Sobhita Dhulipala also tagged Gulshan and Vijay in her comments and wrote “emotional.” When journalist Sucharita Tyagi noted how Uljha director Sudhanshu Saria was caught in the middle between Janhvi and Gulshan, the actor replied, “Suds was nervous… very very nervous. So were the PR team present.”
When Tyagi wrote she doesn’t “blame” them, Gulshan added, “Never. I’m a little unpredictable and it’s tough to get where I’m going.” Written by Parveez Shaikh and Sudhanshu Saria, with dialogues by Atika Chauhan, Ulajh also stars Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang, Meiyang Chang, Rajendra Gupta, and Jitendra Joshi. The film is set to release on August 2.
