Actors Patralekhaa and Rajkummar Rao have had an interesting love story. After meeting at a music video shoot, they dated for over a decade before tying the knot in 2021. Recently, the IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack actor revealed her first reaction after meeting her now-husband. “I think he is very creepy,” she recalled telling her friend while talking about the Stree 2 star.
In a recent interview with Humans of Bombay, Patralekhaa recalled her first meeting with Rajkummar Rao, and shared, “I had just seen LSD. His first film. About three days later, one of my school friends called me, she said, ‘Could you do this video for me, it’s a music video, and I am calling this other actor called Rajkummar. He was just in LSD.’ I said, ‘Ruksana, no, I am not coming because I think he is very creepy and I was scared.’ She was like, ‘Nothing will happen, we will send you a car, and why don’t you get your sister along with you?’ I was like, ‘Okay, let’s see.’”
She added, “I made my sister sit between me and Raj, and they started chit-chatting. I was feeling weird because he was that creepy guy from that movie. So, I was pinching her, and said do not talk to him. And eventually, it was bit awkward, because the ride was also long from Mumbai to Pune. So, he was like, ‘Hey, what do you do?’ I am like, ‘I have done these couple of ads’. And the moment I said that, I saw there was some shift. And as the story goes, he had seen that particular ad and he was like, ‘I wanna marry this girl’.”
Sharing how she eventually fell for Rajkummar, Patralekhaa revealed, “When we reached FTTI and started shooting for the video. We were there for three days. He was just a different human being. Someone who loved his art so much, and was so passionate about his work. It was such a rarity, and I just couldn’t stop falling in love with him. I was like, ‘Oh my god, this man is all about his work and passion and there is so much integrity and depth to him’. Most of us, back then, when we were doing audition rounds, everybody was doing this either to become richer or to become famous… But he was this guy who was just doing this for the love of his art.”

In an interview with Raj Shamani, Rajkummar Rao had shared his version of their love story. “We met in 2010, but we started dating in 2011. A second year student from FTTI called me and requested me to shoot a music video for her. I agreed. She told me, ‘There will be another girl travelling with you, her name is Patralekhaa’, I was like, ‘Sure’. She didn’t talk to me, while her sister Parna was nicely talking to me,” Rajkummar recalled.
He added, “Because we were soon-to-be co-actors, so I thought we should interact. I broke the ice, and I said, “Hi, I am Raj,” and she introduced herself. I asked her, “What have you done?” She told me a couple of ads and then she mentioned one particular ad, and I had seen that ad, I don’t know, something happened, and a thought came, “What a sweet girl ya, I wish I could marry her’. When I realised she was the same girl, I thought to myself, I can’t let go of the opportunity, I have to impress this girl, we have to go out. We came back to Bombay. We started to go out for lunches and dinners, and very organically, we realised that we are in love.”
In 2021, Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa, who starred together in the 2014 film City Lights, tied the knot in an intimate ceremony.
