Actor Shilpa Shirodkar, who worked with several major male stars, including Mithun Chakraborty, Suniel Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, and Govinda, in the 1990s, left acting after her 2000 film Gaja Gamini to focus on her family. In 2013, she made a comeback with the show Ek Mutthi Aasmaan. Now a part of the latest season of Bigg Boss, Shilpa opened up about falling into severe depression.
Talking to her co-contestant Gunaratna Sadavarte in the third episode of Bigg Boss 18, Shilpa revealed how her husband made sacrifices for her after she fell into depression. She said, “When I lost my parents, I went into severe depression in 2008. Apresh was doing so well in his career, but he left it all behind and brought us to India. If only Apresh had been ambitious enough to stay back and not give up his career for me, he would have been in a great position today in the banking world.”
Replying to Shilpa, Gunaratna said, “It’s once in 50 years that we see the arrival of a great star. I believe you were one of them, along with Madhuri Dixit. But because you left suddenly, you were left behind.” Shilpa replied, “But I don’t regret my decision at all.” Gunaratna continued, “But your viewers do. A celeb’s life is not theirs alone, they become part of their viewer’s life. Watching you, Madhuri and Kangana is a delight.”
This is not the first time Shilpa has spoken about the contributions of her husband and daughter in her life. In the same episode, Shilpa said, “My husband and my daughter are so supportive. If I am here today, it is only because of them. The way my daughter supports me, it’s unreal. I have seen my mother sacrifice things for us, so I think, if I do that for my daughter, she will be stronger.”
Previously, talking to indianexpress.com, Shilpa revealed the reason why she took up Bigg Boss. She said, “I have been asked this a lot and I have always said that yes I was looking for work before Bigg Boss, but nobody answers your phone and if they do, they diplomatically say that nothing is happening as of now in the industry. They shall call back when there is an opportunity, this has happened with me of late. I am an actor, I want to work, for me, Bigg Boss is also work. People look at it differently, but it’s a job. My goal to do this is to get more work afterward, I am not being fake or diplomatic here, I was seeking work, but people were not ready to even meet me.”
