It’s no secret that filmmaker Anurag Kashyap thrives on a steady diet of coffee, films, and books. Recently, he offered a glimpse into his cozy Mumbai home, which unsurprisingly brims with stacks of books and countless DVDs adorning the racks.
Kashyap began his house tour by revealing that this is the same house featured in his Netflix film AK vs AK. Unlike many Bollywood celebrities, Anurag’s home isn’t adorned with extravagant art but with DVDs and books, which he treasures as his most prized possessions. Every tabletop and corner of Anurag’s house is stacked with bundles of books, showcasing his love for literature. He shared a peek into his small living room, often transformed into a brainstorming space for him and his writers, where all meetings and writing sessions take place. He also revealed that they even recorded the music for his film Kennedy at the very table.
Anurag also mentioned that he had previously housed many filmmakers and artistes, but he has since “closed his dharamshala” and converted the guest room into a kitchen. He explained, “There was a bedroom here with a lot of history. Many people have stayed here, but I cleared everything out because I wanted to close my dharamshala.” Kashyap added that Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov, whose film The Shameless premiered at Cannes this year, was among those who had stayed with him. “I finally decided to reclaim my space. I’ve converted every room, so there’s no space left except for where I sleep in this house,” he remarked.

The filmmaker then showcased his extensive library, highlighting some of his favorite books. He admitted to being a major fan of graphic novels and proudly displayed his collection. Taking viewers to his screening room, where AK vs AK was filmed, Anurag explained that he spends most of his time there watching films. He also provided a glimpse of his bedroom, which features a small walk-in closet that he jokingly refers to as his “shoe library,” as his footwear lines the outside due to cabinet space running out.

Anurag Kashyap also shared a glimpse of his terrace, a tranquil space he cherishes. He revealed that his ex-wife Kalki Koechlin had discovered this house, and they purchased it. Anurag humorously mentioned that the narrow lane leading to his house prevents big film stars’ cars from entering, forcing them to walk the final stretch. He quipped, “Only those who genuinely want to come here make the effort. Our industry folks have such big cars that they can’t navigate this lane. They have to humble themselves and walk the rest of the way.”
Currently, Anurag Kashyap is gearing up for his upcoming series, Bad Cop, in which he plays a negative role. The series will start streaming on Disney+Hotstar from June 21.
