Janhvi Kapoor has had an interesting trajectory in her six-year-long career as a Bollywood actress. After winning hearts as a cricketer in Mr & Mrs Mahi with Rajkummar Rao, she’s now set to share the screen with Gulshan Devaiah in spy thriller, Ulajh.
Janhvi received a fair amount of appreciation and criticism on social media on the nepotism issue, her work and fashion sense. As she appeared at an event, it was pointed out that more people are coming out in her favour. When asked if the actor has ever paid people on the internet to compliment her, the actor joked that she doesn’t have a budget for it.
When told that people are saying good things about her on social media, she told Pinkvilla, “I hope so,” and jokingly added, “Paise khilwa ke bulwa rahi hu (I am paying them to say it).” Janhvi said that whenever people appreciate her work on social media there is a bunch of people who diss her talent and say it’s her PR machinery that’s doing all the work. She said, “Koi bhi main jab dekhti hu na social media par galti se koi bhi tareef kar leta hai na toh yeh bolte rehte hain ki ‘yeh toh iska PR hoga, yeh toh iska..’ (Whenever I receive praise on social media, some people ‘this must be her PR’).”
In an earlier interview to HT, Janhvi had accepted that she does monitor social media to understand people’s opinions of her. “I gave it a lot of value at one point because I told myself it was important to understand the pulse of what the audience wants, what they’re saying, where I’m lacking, what I need to work on. I thought social media was a great platform to try and gauge that. But it has its positives and negatives. One also needs to identify that although many people are on social media, that still isn’t the majority of people’s voice. It’s a huge part of what they’re thinking but they are many things to take into account, there are many variables.”
On the work front, after Ulajh, Janhvi will be seen sharing the screen with NTR Jr in Devara: Part 1, releasing in September.
