Janhvi Kapoor, while promoting her film Mr. & Mrs. Mahi with Rajkummar Rao. opened up about the insecurities she faced and gotten over in her life. Janhvi revealed that there was a time she had body image issues and felt she was lacking most human experiences.
Talking to Ranveer Allahabadia, the actor said, “I have always been the one who chases growth, like personal growth, intellectual growth, artistic growth. I don’t like to stagnate in any way, shape or form. I was in a very different emotional space (earlier)… I was drowning in insecurity.” Ranveer gasped when he learned that Janhvi had issues with her body. Whe he asked her, “Really?”, Janhvi responded by saying, “It’s been conditioned into me, I think from a very young age. When your entire existence and everyone around you kind of makes you feel like… this is in no way me asking for sympathy, it’s just everyone has different realities, this is mine. I mean when people have such a heavy perception of you and your privilege and you are kind of made to feel apologetic about the space that you take up in the industry. In school, every time you make friends or do well, you get any sort of opportunity, it is always pinned to where you come from. Then you kind of don’t know what value to give yourself individually.”
“Self worth is always a thing because I didn’t know how to assess my own value and after losing mom I was just seeking a lot of validation from places I shouldn’t have been seeking validation from,” Janhvi added while discussing how she coped with the untimely passing of her mother Sridevi.
When Janhvi Kapoor was asked if she would be comfortable talking about the insecurities she had in her 20’s, she revealed that she was insecure about her body and language.
She said, “I think I was very insecure about my physicality.” She explained the reason behind it. “I was in the media since I was like 6. Either I am being sexualised too much or I am not being sexualised enough.” The next insecurity she opened up about was her language. She said, “My language, I have been insecure about whether I can speak good enough Hindi or not, although I am very proud of my Hindi now. And I have been insecure about whether I have had enough human experiences or not. Have I been too sheltered? Do I know enough about the real world or no?”
Janhvi Kapoor’s Mr & Mrs Mahi, directed by Sharan Sharma, will hit screens on May 31.
