Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa’s Punjabi comedy film Jatt & Juliet 3 released in cinemas on Thursday. Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, the film opened to largely positive reviews and has become the second biggest Punjabi opener in India. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Jatt & Juliet 3 made Rs 3.25 crore nett in India.
On Thursday, Diljit and Neeru’s comedy caper observed an overall Punjabi occupancy of 46.43 percent, with most cinegoers catching the night show of the film. In Chandigarh, the film witnessed 55 percent occupancy for 173 shows. In Delhi-NCR, there were 355 shows, with occupancy of 31.75 percent. The film witnessed higher occupancy in Jalandhar and Ludhiana of more than 66 percent with 53 and 101 shows respectively.
So far, the biggest Punjabi opener in India has been Gippy Grewal’s 2023 film Carry on Jatta 3, which made Rs 4.55 crore on its opening day. So far, the second and third spots was held by Diljit’s films Honsla Rakh and Shadaa, which made Rs 2.52 crore and Rs 2.4 crore on opening day respectively.
While reports are suggesting that Jatt & Juliet 3 has made around Rs 8 crore globally on its first day, the exact numbers are yet to come out. So far, the biggest global Punjabi opener has been Carry on Jatta 3 which made Rs 10 crore globally on opening day. The Gippy Grewal film went on to made Rs 101.9 crore during its lifetime run globally.
Jatt & Juliet 3’s collections in the north might get affected by Kalki 2898 AD. While the Diljit Dosanjh film has a strong hold in Punjab, it could face a tough competition in Delhi-NCR region. The film was extensively promoted by its lead stars ahead of its release. Diljit’s fans will have a double treat this week as he has also sung Kalki 2898 AD’s Bhairava Anthem.
Jatt & Juliet is Diljit’s first Punjabi outing after the success of his Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila where he played the titular role and delivered one of the best performances of 2024.
