Lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar joined his filmmaker daughter Zoya Akhtar at Expresso, held in Mumbai on Thursday. During their interaction, the father-daughter duo discussed contemporary Hindi cinema. Javed also heaped praises on actor Alia Bhatt, and talked about her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2022 film Gangubai Kathaiwadi.

Lauding Alia’s recent performances, Javed said, “With Gangubai, Alia, today, is perhaps one of the few finest actors.” He added with his trademark cheek, “Actually, I feel she is the finest but I am being diplomatic so other heroines don’t get upset.” Watch the video here:


Zoya Akhtar, who was set to produce the film Jee Le Zaraa, with Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra nd Katrina Kaif, gave an update on the project and revealed the reasons behind its delay. She said that the film is very much in the pipeline, and  that the delay is because they are not able to align the dates of the three stars. “I think aligning the three of them, their dates, and Farhan, his dates,” said Zoya.

Zoya Akhtar and Javed Akhtar have collaborated on several films, including Luck By Chance (2009), followed by Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), among others. Zoya recently co-produced the documentary series Angry Young Men, based on the life and works of her father and his screenwriter partner Salim Khan. The duo co-wrote 24 films in just 11 years during the 1970s, with 20 of those becoming blockbusters. Salim’s sons – Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan – were also a part of documentary.
