Robert Downey Jr said an emotional goodbye to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers Endgame only to return to the franchise as the villainous Doctor Doom five years later. The 59-year-old, who played Iron Man, took the internet by storm when he made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con to reveal that he will be playing the villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and  Avengers: Secret War and not the armour-suited Iron Man who saves the day. Now, Jeremy Renner, who played Hawkeye and was Robert Downey Jr’s co-star in several Avengers movies, reacting to the Oppenheimer actor playing Doctor Doom, said RDJ kept the news under wraps and didn’t divulge about his return to the MCU to any of the other Marvel actors.

The actor told US Weekly, “I had no idea. This son of a bi**h didn’t say anything to me, and we’re good friends.”

Jeremy Renner, who only learnt about the Oscar Award-winning actors stepping into the shoes of Doctor Doom after he saw the news online, said he started “blowing up” Avengers WhatsApp Groups which Renner, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo are part of. “I started blowing up Robert Downey Jr’s phone,” the actor said, adding, “I’m like, ‘What’s going on? Are you hiding this from us?’ I don’t know.”  However, the 53-year-old said he was thrilled to hear the news. “I’m really, really excited about it,” he added.
