Actor John Abraham, who is presently promoting his upcoming film, Vedaa, recently got into a public argument with an entertainment journalist at the trailer launch of the film. When John was asked about doing films in his comfort zone, the actor responded by calling the person an “idiot.” Now, in a new interview, the actor stood by his actions, and insisted that the person “deserved it.” He also said that the journalist was “planted there” to “provoke” him.
In a chat with Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel, John said, “I know that one guy was planted there to rile me up, to antagonise me, to provoke me and I want to say that he won and I lost because I did get angry.” John said that he had not attended a press conference in a long time, so he was “out of practice.” He added that he does not like trailer launch events anyway.
John said, “I don’t like trailer launches because it’s like you are time traveling 20 years in the past. It is the same journalists, same absurd questions, no one is asking the right questions and entertainment journalism, in my opinion, is finished in India. No one asks intelligent questions.”
The actor then said that the person who asked him a question about his choice of films in the recent past was perhaps there to instigate him, and get a reaction out of him. “There was a guy sitting there. He must have some boss above him, who must have asked him to push me because this will give us content, and he did that. At that point, I reacted. He didn’t win, I lost because I am bigger than that. I probably shouldn’t have done it, but it happened. Did he deserve it? Yeah, he deserved it but I moved on. In just a minute, I was back on track that I have to focus on myself.”

At the said event, the journalist had asked that the actor has only been focusing on action films and said, “Kuch naya laayee na sir (Do some different films, sir).” A visibly annoyed Abraham shot back and said, “Have you seen the film (Vedaa)? Can I call out bad questions and idiots?” He then added, “Since you haven’t seen the film yet… Maybe watch the film first and then judge. After that I am all yours. Whatever you say. But if you’re wrong, I’m going to turn you around and tear you apart.”
In his chat with Ranveer, John said that ever since the start of his career, people tried to demean him. He recalled, “There were so many film magazines at the time and one magazine printed one issue saying that ‘John Abraham is over’ and I was on the cover. And all the distributors, exhibitors, producers, actors, female actors, they interviewed everyone and most of them agreed that John is over. That same editor is now my producer, and I never asked them, ‘Why did you do that?’ He himself told me ‘I didn’t want to see you succeed’. I asked ‘why?’ He said, ‘Just like that, there was no reason’.”
Vedaa will be released on August 15.
