Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for her directorial debut, Emergency, which is set for release in cinemas on September 6. While promoting her film, Kangana has suggested that she was shadow-banned by Bollywood. In yet another interview, Kangana called Bollywood a “hopeless” place and claimed that people in the fraternity have tried to pull her down.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, she said, “I am a no-nonsense person, people who vibe with me, they love me, but there are very few people who have a problem with me. Otherwise, if you see, the way I won the election, I also receive a lot of love from the industry. So, it proves that only a few people have a problem with me. Is the problem in me or them? It could be that there is a problem in them, isn’t it? They should think about it.”
Talking a potshot at industry insiders for ruining the careers of talented people, she said, “Bollywood is, I am honestly saying, it’s a hopeless place. Kuch nahi inka hone wala (there is no saving this place). Because, one, they are jealous of talent. If they find someone talented they go behind them to finish them, unka career barbaad kar dete hai (they ruin their career), unko boycott kar dete hai (boycott them). Itna ganda PR kar kar ke unko badnaam kar dete hai (they defame people with bad PR).”
On being asked if this happens in secret, Kangana retorted, “Where internally? They do it externally, in the open. That’s how they run people’s careers. They support only those from their clan, those who are mediocre and indulge in flattery, become their doormats. They function on convenience, if that’s how it is then how will anyone do good in the world?”
Kangana then also said that the present generation of filmmakers are supporting mediocre people, and making camps, it wasn’t a case with older generation of filmmakers like Yash Chopra, K Asif and others. She said, “It is their parents, the older generation of directors, who had the attitude of politeness, whether it is Yash Chopra or K Asif, Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, you see their integrity, they were different kind of people. Look at the people today, they are all into making camps. The worst thing is that they hate talent.”
Kangana was last seen in Chandramukhi 2 and Tejas, last year. Both films were box office duds. She’ll now be seen playing the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Emergency, releasing in cinemas on September 6.
