It appears that, despite being elected as a parliamentarian, Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut is in no mood to bid goodbye to controversies and has made another remark that is likely to attract divisive comments. Days after getting embroiled in the slap row, Kangana has called for the normalisation of workaholism for the country’s development.

Kangana shared this view on her Instagram stories while posting a clip from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first address to PMO staffers, where he outlined his vision for 2047. Modi stated, “Together we have just one goal – Nation First. Just one intention – 2047 Viksit Bharat. I have said this publicly, my each and every moment is for the country. I have also promised the country – 24/7 for 2047.”

Echoing the Prime Minister’s sentiment, Mandi MP Kangana remarked, “We need to normalise obsessive work culture and stop with the waiting for the weekends and crib about Mondays memes. That’s all western brainwashing. We are not a developed nation yet and we can’t afford to be bored and lazy at all.”

The actor-turned-politician’s latest remarks come shortly after she was allegedly slapped by a CISF woman constable at Chandigarh airport. The constable claimed her actions were in response to a statement Ranaut made about women joining the farmers’ protest for Rs 100. “She had given a statement that women have joined the farm protests for Rs 100. Was she there? My mother was sitting there,” Kaur was heard purportedly saying in a video.

The incident sparked polarised reactions, prompting Kangana to address her defenders on X, where she tweeted, “Every rapist, murderer or thief always has a strong emotional, physical, psychological or financial reason to commit a crime. No crime ever happens without a reason, yet they are convicted and sentenced to jail. If you are aligned with the criminal’s strong emotional impulse to commit a crime violating all laws of the land.” In retaliation, critics dug up her old social media post supporting Hollywood actor Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

Festive offer

Now, at a time when discussions about poor working conditions and the need to balance work and life gain traction in India, it remains to be seen how Kangana’s call to normalise workaholism will be received.
