Priyanka Chopra’s cousin and fellow actor, Meera Chopra, has come out in support of actor Kangana Ranaut‘s foray into politics. According to Meera, it’s the perfect time for young people such as Kangana to join politics. She said that she feels Kangana is still facing teething issues as she is new to being a politician, but is sure that Kangana will find her way. “I think it’s the time for young people to get in (politics). Look at Kangana. I think it’s the best time for her to get in, though I would say she is a better actor, but she’s just starting,” Meera said in an interview with Hitflik.
Meera confessed that she is a Kangana Rananut fan as she admires the strength and resilience that she has shown in the film industry. She said, “I am a Kangan fan. I am a huge Kangana fan. I think what she has done in this industry no other actress before, ever, since the inception of Bollywood has been able to do.” Kangana’s ability to survive in the industry despite being undiplomatic has earned her Meera’s respect. “She is a fighter, she is a survivor. She is alone, and that’s how she is working. She is doing everything. Koi nahi kar paya aaj tak (No one has managed to do all this till date).”
However, Meera acknowledged that Kangana’s straightforward nature often lands her in trouble. “She is not diplomatic, she doesn’t think before she talks, and that’s why she gets into so much trouble.” This trait has led to frequent apologies on Twitter due to misguided statements. “Nobody can deny she is a great actor. Is acting helping her in politics? No! The poor girl is apologising every 10 days on Twitter because of her wrong statements, because she talks from her heart.”
Despite these challenges, Meera believes Kangana’s leadership qualities will ultimately shine through. “I think, in politics, she is just facing teething problems… But if I look at her qualities, she is a fighter, she is a survivor, she is very strong. She is really good when she talks. I think all these qualities you need in a leader. I think she will be a fab leader.”
Kangana Ranaut, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP, has been facing controversy lately, particularly with her statement on the repealed farm laws, suggesting they should be brought back. This didn’t sit well with the Opposition, who swiftly criticised her remarks. The BJP was quick to distance themselves from Ranaut’s comments, clarifying that her views were personal and didn’t reflect the party’s stance.
Ranaut later apologised, stating “I take my words back,” and acknowledging that as a politician, her opinions should align with the party’s, not be personal. This isn’t the first time the BJP has disassociated themselves from Ranaut’s comments; last month, they expressed disapproval over her inflammatory remarks about the farmers’ agitation as well.
